Surviving Layoff Workshops
The Missouri AFL-CIO Dislocated Worker Program staff can arrange for a Surviving Layoff Workshop to be held for laid off workers before or after the layoff has occurred. The union involved will notify workers that information will be provided to them concerning training, school, unemployment information, family support, credit counseling and other valuable resources to help at this time. The workshop can be customized depending on the needs of the workers.
Transition Team Trainings
If a sufficient amount of time is given before the layoff occurs, we will train a small number of workers to act as peer counselors. The training lasts one or two days and is generally held on company time at the facility. The same presentations are made as with the Surviving Layoff workshop. This team will remain in place till the layoff has occurred and preferably longer depending on their expertise.
There are several resources available for laid off workers including the Missouri Career Centers. Unemployment is not the end of the world and can be survived. Having the right attitude, knowing where to turn, and taking the proper action can reduce the impact of joblessness on family.
